Competitive Program

Our Club offers a comprehensive youth soccer program designed to create a competitive training environment for boys and girls players ages 7-19. Our competitive program includes one to two training sessions per week while competing in local, regional leagues and tournaments for both Indoor and Outdoor . The program offers an organized and competitive training environment providing players with freedom to be creative and enjoy the game of soccer. As such tryouts are required to be placed on a competitive team.

Players interested in participating in NPYSA’s competitive program are required to attend tryouts. Tryouts provide coaches the opportunity to evaluate players based on technical ability, game understanding, effort, attitude, coachability, and overall readiness for competitive play. This evaluation process helps ensure appropriate team placement and supports a positive, development-focused environment for all participants.

Placement on a competitive team is not guaranteed for all players. Competitive teams have limited roster sizes, and selections are made based on team needs and overall tryout evaluations. Players who are not placed on a competitive team are encouraged to continue their development through our recreational programs, which remain an important part of NPYSA’s player pathway. Our goal is to provide the best possible experience for every player while maintaining balanced, competitive teams.

The indoor competitive season provides a consistent environment for players to refine their technical skills and maintain match fitness throughout the winter months. We are pleased to utilize the professional-grade facilities at Wide World of Indoor Sports, with games hosted at both the North Smithfield and North Kingstown locations. Placement at either facility is determined by age group and team size to ensure an appropriate and competitive atmosphere for every player.

The indoor portion of the year consists of two winter sessions, each featuring a six-game schedule. These sessions offer players the opportunity to compete against a diverse range of regional teams from across Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. By participating in these fast-paced indoor matches, our players continue their development against high-quality competition while preparing for the upcoming spring season.

The spring competitive season is conducted through Super Liga, a competitive organization for youth soccer within Rhode Island. This program offers an environment where our teams face rigorous competition from across the Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. The season consists of an eight-game schedule spanning from March through May and designed to challenge our athletes and foster tactical development in a formal league structure.

Games are hosted at various regional sites, providing our players with the experience of both home and away match dynamics. In accordance with league standards, matches are played rain or shine to ensure the season progresses on schedule. Play will only be suspended or rescheduled if field conditions are deemed unsafe or if weather poses a direct risk to the participants. This outdoor season serves as a cornerstone of our competitive year, requiring a high level of commitment and sportsmanship from all players.

NOTE: Beginning in the 2026–27 season, NPYSA will adopt the school-year, grade-based age grouping recommended by US Youth Soccer, aligning players with their school peers
